Love Your Lakes Photography and Video Competition 2023 - South West Lakes

Last chance to enter your photos and videos in South West Lakes Love Your Lakes Photography and Video Competition.  

The deadline for entries is Tuesday 31 October 2023. The winning images will be part of an exhibition at Roadford Lake, your photo could win a prize of up to £250 cash and might also feature in the 2024 South West Lakes calendar! 

There are four categories to choose from - Wonderful Wildlife, Stunning Scenery, Awesome Adventures and It's Your Outdoors (video entries).

Calling all Fishermen & Women - Emerald Pool Fishery in Somerset will be hosting a Charity Fishing Match on Saturday 14th October in memory of Luke Organ to raise money for SADS charity. Everyone welcome - just £20 per person with 100% proceeds going to the charity. To secure your place please email [email protected] or call 07794597678. To manage expectations on the day all placement fees need to be paid by Sept 30th with no refunds available.

Fishing Holidays on the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is a beautiful island off the south coast of England. It’s known for its beaches and seafront promenades such as sandy Shanklin Beach and some wonderful fishing spots, including the perfectly located Nettlecombe Farm.
 
Nettlecombe Farm offers nine award winning dog friendly self-catering cottages, unique farm feeding experiences and three coarse fishing lakes. 
The coarse fishing lakes at Nettlecombe Farm are well-stocked with Carp, Roach and Tench of various sizes and offers a great day’s fishing.
 

Acoustic Fish Deterrent (AFD) System Hinkley Point C Removal Consultation - Environment Agency

The company now wants to vary their existing permit to amend or remove conditions relating to the design and operation of the Acoustic Fish Deterrent (AFD) system. This was initially proposed as part of the station’s marine intake system i.e. pipes used to abstract cooling water from the Severn Estuary. Please read more in attached pdf.

A new National Angling Strategy is being produced to shape the future of the sport – and we need your help. The Environment Agency has commissioned research company Substance to research and develop a new National Angling Strategy for 2019-2024.
 

Weak enforcement and water pollution – call for evidence

A group of researchers are carrying out an in-depth examination of the impacts of deregulation and weak enforcement on social and environmental well-being in the UK. In order to bring this issue to life and create a strong public mandate for policy change, the team is looking for visual evidence of the impacts of the enforcement gap around the country. One of the areas under consideration is the pollution of UK waterways from the farming, water and waste sectors.

World Fishing Day on 23rd June 2018

The first ever World Fishing Day is on 23rd June 2018.

Fishing TV are launching the event after research reveals fishing is one of the life skills modern dads are no longer teaching their children. They hope to unite the angling community, bring more people into the sport and highlight environmental issues
