The Arundell Fly Fishing School Arundell Arms - Lifton, Devon

Learn To Fly Fish at One of England’s Premier Westcountry Fishing Hotels
 Recently voted ‘Best Fishing School in the UK’ by The Field magazine.
The Arundell Arms Hotel has six, professional instructors available. Four of our instructors hold the prestigious AAPGAI (Advanced) qualifications, two in single handed and two in single and double-handed fishing disciplines.  Our team is led by David Pilkington, a single-handed master and double-handed advanced who has taught literally thousands of people to fly-fish over forty years.
We control the fishing rights on seven different rivers, the Tamar and six tributaries, all natural spate rivers draining the moors and high ground of the Westcountry. With private fishing on a total of 22 miles of riverbank, you will have up to a mile of water to yourself for the day. Please note that this is very important when learning to fish – we do not teach on club waters where you have to share your stretch of river with a number of other anglers.
Learn to Fish at The Arundell - Fishing Tuition can be arranged for individuals and groups of up to 10 anglers for both residents and non-residents of the hotel. We also run regular two-day courses.  We cater for all abilities from total beginners up to experienced anglers looking to improve and learn advanced techniques. Specialities of the house are lessons in: beginner’s trout fishing, river fishing techniques for wild trout, night fishing for sea trout, modern spey casting and salmon fishing, estuary and open-coast bass fly fishing and much more.
Westcountry River Fishing Lessons at the Arundell  - All tackle and wader hire are included in the cost of tuition, and we have a comprehensive tackle shop on site. We teach fishing. We run courses for beginners. We sell tackle, give advice and provide maps of our fishing. It is all this and more which makes The Arundell a real fisherman’s hotel.
“From the very beginning of the fishing season I’ve always felt that I’ve been talking to knowledgeable friends rather than instructors”. Michael Haines

It could be argued that we neglect at our peril the importance that rivers
and streams play in our lives. Exmoor’s rivers are an important source of supply for drinking water and water quality;
they provide crucial habitats which support a wide range of species including salmon and other migratory fish. Many of the fast flowing scenic rivers have carved dramatic landforms and picturesque floodplains, evoking a strong sense of place and attracting
